Sony BMG announced today that Emily Williams has signed a recording contract with them. From what I understand, immediately after Australian Idol finished Sony had all but said they were not interested in a contract with the runner up. Maybe after the lack-lustre record sales of Kate DeAraugo, they’ve realised that maybe the wrong person won the competition again and are now hot on the heals of the rightful winner.

Indeed, hurry up Sony! We all waited since last year for your oganisation to recognize the true winner and award her with a contract that she soo deserves, doesn’t anyone in Sony realise that she does have potential? Why has it taken you guys so long to pick up the real winner?
Totally awesome she deserves a contract and more, Emily is a NZ born Samoan Kiwi Girl and not fat! Alot of people assume that because Pacific Islanders enjoy hip-hop, RNB, soul etc that they’re trying to be black. No way if anything most Pacific Islanders stand proud of who they are. If they are labelled as wantin to be black its because they are treated like unfairly or stereotyped like black people.

Also I think emily will be the best thing for here home country NZ, as it gives them another major female tallent next to BIC RUNGA (new album comes out soon) but yeah emily totally rules and i see gaby is gonna keep her mouth shut from on now… and kates single out of the top10 in 3 weeks… what happened to that sensation and she seriously needs to take some diet tips from MARY KATE OLSEN if she thinks shes lost 30 kgs cause i dont see from where. I can’t help but feel that Sony BMG are holding Emily back to ensure the sales of Kate’s and Lee’s recordings.

Emily is the best. People in Bendigo such as myself voted for Kate cause she was a local. Big deal. The point is to crown an idol who can sing. I’m not saying Kate can’t sing cause that would be a lie. Kate sure does hold the stage, but Emily really deserves her own debut albums.
Kate DeArugo and Lee Harding were made #1 hits, as they proved fairly popular during the 3rd series.

Obi, you are so right as I also believe they holding Emily back by saving the best til last.
Thankfully Lee and Kate are on there way down the charts, so we hope that as her management are stating an April release it will be soon… I can’t wait. In the meantime, I will have to settle with the recordings I made when Emily was in Idol until her release.
I’m hoping that Sony/BMG and her management promote her well, it had better be sooner than later.

i dont get why people havent worked out that kate WON because people VOTED for her. why are so many people saying kate pulled the fat card when she accepted the criticism on the chin from kyle and only talked about the way her weight impacted her life in the final heart to heart at dinner with mark and the scream queen? Strangely enough, people expect us to believe that a young unplanned pregnancy makes you a woman with a ‘beautiful soul’ (where do they get that from?!?) is more socially acceptable than a girl who has accepted that she had a problem with her weight and she is taking steps to fix it – jesus, they created a whole tv show around losing weight – i dont see that happening for young mum’s who make ends meet by driving forklifts! Both are social stigma’s that can make anyones life a day to day challenge. simple fact: if everyone thought emily should win and would release a fab album, she would have got the votes to win.

nope, i voted for neither but watched with interest. I just dont get why people think the girl should be rewarded for being an immigrant who had a child at a young age. Just because she refers to her hometown as a ‘ghetto’ doesn’t mean it is, next she’ll be singing about how hard life is on ‘the west side’. Perhaps if she learnt to control herself from screaming her songs (kelly clarkson for 1 would have been horrified at that performance) and could restrain from adding in extra notes she might be on the way to being a credible talent. All the people who say she should be granted a recording contract on the basis that they believe she has overcome adversity should be banned from purchasing music. Everyone has adversity in their life. It doesn’t make them a better singer or even necessarily give them a beautiful soul. Unfortunately for emily, she tried to sell the hype about how hard her life is instead of selling her voice and fortunately for the rest of us the majority of voters didnt fall for it.

Life from Emily’s perspective may have been hard, what’s wrong with sharing that with her fans???Yes she had a baby at a young age like so many other girls regardless of their background. I certainly don’t think that this is a negative. If anything it shows that despite having a baby at a young age,growing up in an environment where it’s tough shows no matter where your from you can definately make a difference. Screaming ?? You totally lost me there, she may have not reached the high notes in some of the songs she had sung but most of her performances easily out did Kate anyday. While Kate sung in such boring tones and played it safe not being able to leave the audience in complete aw as Emily did. What song did she ‘scream’ so badly at? Kelly Clarkson?? totally different styles there again. My preference is still with Emily any day. I have to disagree with you when you have a generalisation overall about life. We all come from different backgrounds and cultures, if your from Emily’s side of town you’d understand. Focus on the positives rather than put Emily down because you mistrust anything that she talks about. Granted she doesn’t have the media experience, but don’t deny the girl from her singing talent because she really can sing!
you all still miss the point. If emily is such a great ‘raw talent’ is the term bandied about, why on earth did it take so long for her to get picked up? I’ve lived with the stigma of being from the wrong side of town but i choose to be successful at what i do without using it as a tale to make me seem unique and like i’ve travelled a hard road. Again, my point is that EVERYONE, including you have adversity in their lives and from every forum i have read on this topic, every emily supporter uses her background to say she deserves a record deal. I’m sure she is a lovely person but if you weren’t blinded by the story towards the end of the comp you would see that her performances in the last weeks were crashing. on the final night in the studio, kate walked all over her – emily’s chances were lost when she choose to do that bloody kelly clarkson song. It was a performance that didnt demonstrate that she had taken on what she had learnt throughout the process. Poor poor song choice, she didnt hit the high notes, she damn well screamed them out. Kate made bad song choices too – way back in the beginning. kate won it when she sung ‘now we’re in heaven’. finally, if you think that having grown up with money makes you spoilt and means you havent experienced any form of hardship in your life i feel sorry for you and wish you well in your chase the mighty dollar. Point in case, emily’s adversity is championed, kate and even as mentioned above, casey’s adversity is dissed in every single forum. did it occur to you that kate may have gotten into the position as the ‘fat’ kid because her life was hard behind closed doors? Just because a person doesn’t continually discuss her life in minute detail (and no im not saying emily did), doesn’t mean it is all roses behind closed doors.
The fact is Emily should have won Idol. Unfortunately Kate does not have the voice nor the talent let alone the personality. Did you see the faces of the judges when Kate was announced as the winner? If Emily’s background or the fact she came 2nd or wasn’t approached by Sony wasn’t good enough for you. Leave it at that, your entitled to your opinions though I doubt it that her fans would stop you there.
If she hasn’t been approached sooner that’s something you need to take up with Sony even if others in who came in 3rd, 4th position. (Like who really cares).
She finally has one and that’s all that matters.
Not every person within this forum uses Emily’s background as a means of winning people over. There’s alot more to this girl than you know!
Majority vouch she can sing way better than Kate. Because that’s the simple fact she did! Point being she made majority of the songs she sung her own ie Bohemian Rhapsody, I’m Every Woman, not all song choices were good but overall she stood out from the rest.
All I saw through out her performances was her voice reach great heights in terms of delivery, her ability to reach high notes. The same for many of the performances from Anne Robertson , Roxanne, and Dan. They were also brilliant. Where as most of the performances had lacked this including Kate. Yes, Kate won by votes and good for her. In comparison to sales after Aus Idol is something else, you’ve lost me there.
Regarding Emily not winning or not being signed from Sony is still somewhat a mystery, again who cares. At long last the girl has a contract and rightfully so, she’ll do well.

I met her in New Zealand years ago and know that she was born and bred in Auckland, her background is of Samoan descent and was part of a singing group Mar’vell. A trio of Samoan ladies that performed not only in Church but also in amongst the Auckland RnB Club scene. She is some what shy ,kind hearted and good natured. I haven’t seen her since until she appeared on Aus Idol.
She obviously moved to Aus to better her future and took up the challenge with Aus Idol. Or isn’t that good enough for you? There were misconceptions that she entered NZ Idol but those rumours are completely fabricated.
So tell me what do you know about Kate? Like you really know Kate or any of the other idols personally. Seems to me you’ve really ‘dissed’ yourself as being a ‘knob’.

Kate performance is what I had commented on, nothing remotely about her weight! She had the baby before the boyfriend so that’s definatley not rewriting the story. My dear Emily is all that and that’s no disrespect to Kate either!!
if she had the baby before the man why did she say otherwise on inside idol? from memory she said it some time either around the audtion process or in the top 40 as well. i called him the big samoan as that is what he was called by other contestants on the show (lee i think) and also on the other forum on this site.

With reference to Kate’s weight it doesn’t bother me either it just proves a point regardless what your background, what your appearance is you can strive through the super model visionary hype of what an idol should look like.

I believe the right person won but you dont need to be a fan to think that. since i’ve never met her i wouldn’t be stupid enough to claim that, let alone knowing and understanding who she really is. Not knowing her does not diminish my arguement. The person who won was fairly voted in.
If you think all i’ve done is search for the negativity in emily, you really should read the statements that the fans of emily have said about kate.
one more thing catwoman. in case you still have not grasped my point and for any other likeminded souls – Kate won as she had the majority of the votes. Be happy for her as well as your idol emily. Stop saying she didnt deserve it because she is fat or a barbiedoll or because her dad paid people off or because the public is full of racists. A majority of people voted for her full stop.
have a nice life, enjoy the cd when it comes out but realise that other people think differently and its not wrong.

Oh there you go again , I did not attack Kate’s weight problem in which you keep bringing up! If anything I congratulated the girl, since you know everything assuming I am Samoan? If anything both girls have been through alot. I still feel Emily will do well. With regard to the negative comments about Kate there’s nothing I can do there luv, guess you’ll have to take that up with them!

Don’t know when she will be releasing her debut single now, it appears to be a waiting game.
Although the news of the Young Divas gives all of us a chance to hear Emily’s amazing voice again,it is dissapointing that they have delayed the release of Emiliy’s solo recordings, which is what we are all waiting for.
